Bogus Beckham Bends Truth in L.A. Calls
August 2, 2007
Los Angeles (AP) — An imposter pretending to be soccer superstar David Beckham made a dozen crank calls to county offices to chat about charity work and drop names of celebrity friends, officials said.
… Clerk Maria Saenz and student worker Susana Guillen, avid fans of the real Beckham, “were just jumping up and down” after the first call, Saenz said.
Officials realized the calls were a hoax after Department of Children and Family Services staffers grilled the caller.
“It just smacked of bogusity,” department spokeswoman Louise Grasmehr said. Continue reading “David Beckham Prank Calls “Smacked of Bogusity””

Boston Blotter: Penis for Lunch in Dedham!
July 23, 2007
Now that will get your attention for sure! Some prankster hacked into a flashing electronic road sign and changed it to read “Penis For Lunch” instead of “Road Construction Ahead” on Route 1. Please don’t arrest this person. This person is funny. Apparently a lot of other people thought so, too, since the authorities didn’t find out until later yesterday afternoon.
One transportation rep said, “Some people might see it as a joke, but this is a road that is traveled on by families and children and there are some people that don’t find it funny.” Maybe because the sign is next to a Toys ‘R’ Us. Oops.
All we’re saying is that the rep should feel lucky the sign didn’t display a Mooninite. News outlets were a little shy when discussing the sign. Fox 25 didn’t think the public couldn’t handle the word “Penis,” so they blurred it out. Even the Herald, which can be as gory and as naughty as it pleases sometimes, called “Penis” a “certain part of the male anatomy.”

From Fonejacker.tv, a fan site for the British television comedy show Fonejacker starring Kayvan Novak. From Wikipedia: “Each episode begins with the definition of the word ‘fonejack’, being to seize control of a telephone conversation by farce especially to divert it from reason and logic.” In this episode, the caller is trying to buy a “Doovdé”.

Prankster Dentist Wins in Court
by David Ammons
July 27, 2007
Olympia, Wash. (AP) — An oral surgeon who temporarily implanted fake boar tusks in his assistant’s mouth as a practical joke and got sued for it has gotten the state’s high court to back up his gag.
Dr. Robert Woo of Auburn had put in the phony tusks while the woman was under anesthesia for a different procedure. He took them out before she awoke, but he first shot photos that eventually made it around the office.
The employee, Tina Alberts, felt so humiliated when she saw the pictures that she quit and sued her boss.
Woo’s insurance company, Fireman’s Fund, refused to cover the claim, saying the practical joke was intentional and not a normal business activity his insurance policy covered, so Woo settled out of court. He agreed to pay Alberts $250,000, then he sued his insurers. Continue reading “A Boared Dentist”
