The Joke’s on Who?

When will “cancel culture” evolve and stop trying to canceling speech that’s clearly and obviously protected by the 1st Amendment?

The University of Washington pays $600,000 to a professor it investigated for poking fun at a land acknowledgment.

One way to identify ideologues is that they won’t tolerate ribbing. After the University of Washington recommended that computer science professors include in their course materials an acknowledgment of “the Coast Salish peoples of this land,” one instructor responded with a parody statement on his syllabus.

That angered the university administration, which launched an investigation. But now the professor has prevailed in court, winning $600,000 in damages and legal fees, as well as securing a vow by the university to allow his parody statement. Read whole article here.

Jon Stewart Speaks Out on Jimmy Kimmel Cancellation

The comedian delivered a very different version of “The Daily Show.”

Jon Stewart made a rare midweek appearance on “The Daily Show” Thursday night to wade into the controversy over ABC’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night program.

Stewart, who usually only hosts on Mondays, opened the show in front of a gold-emblazoned, Trump-style backdrop to deliver what he described as the latest episode of a “fun, hilarious, administration-compliant show.”

FL Governor Ron DeSantis and IA Governor Kim Reynolds Canceled by a Snowflake

In Iowa, DeSantis gets snowflake gift with ‘fascist’ hidden on it, by Ellen E. Clarke, Tampa Bay Times, Mar 11, 2023

The Florida governor posed for a photo with the gift, as did Iowa’s governor.

In Iowa on Friday to promote his new book, Gov. Ron DeSantis posed with a gift from a supposed supporter. The gift, a framed cutout of an intricate snowflake, features the word “fascist.” Read the rest of this article here.
